Kristen Bell & Mila Kunis in the new movie: Bad Moms Trailer
Kunis and Bell Bring Laughs Again
Kristen Bell and Mila Kunis are teaming up again for the comedic summer movie due out in July, Bad Moms. After the pair brought laughs in Forgetting Sarah Marshall eight years ago, there is much anticipation over their impending hit. Forgetting Sarah Marshall had Kunis and Bell as opposing love interests of one goofy guy. They will now join forces as friends and moms. The new movie follows three moms, Kristen Bell, Mila Kunis, and Kathryn Hahn as they finally experience some freedom from being the perfect PTA moms. Kunis, as Amy, leads the way in a revolt against what is expected. “I am so tired of trying to be this perfect mom. I’m done. … We all work too damn hard to make our children’s lives amazing and magical. Their lives already are amazing and magical. … We have to bring down the perfect moms,” exclaims the anxious Amy played by Kunis, during a PTA meeting. She has kids, a childish husband, and a demanding boss. When it all becomes too much, she takes action. The stressed out and over worked women decide to finally take a break and have some fun. Drama and comedy ensues as these “Bad Moms” bust out of their routines and stop trying to be perfect. Christina Applegate, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Annie Mumolo are among the strict PTA mothers who join the chaos as the antagonists. They push the healthy, homemade, DIY mom agenda.
Motherhood is a new role for Kunis and Bell. While it now reflects their real life, it is a new portrayal for them in film. Some of the women are more believable than others as parents. From the trailer, it appears that Kunis has children old enough to have made her a teen mom. Hahn appears more believable as a mom, maybe because of age or just because she has taken on the role in so many other movies. The film brings relevance to the balancing act of motherhood that happens today. Many relevant topics of parenthood are also in the movie. Some topics include: healthy meals, allergies, parent involvement, and substance abuse. There are still the feel good moments where the women discuss how much they love their children. They have the wine filled talks about what they will do to protect their families that seem to lead to redemptive scenes about family love. The writers of The Hangover created this female driven film and promise silly mishaps and adventures amidst the fluff.Bad Moms is what happens when a woman who appears to have everything is overwhelmed by having everything and finally stops trying so hard.
